The Benefits of Digitizing Content
There are 2 main ways to transfer your VHS to DVD.
- Using DVD Recorders
- Using Sophisticated Digitization
Digitization
This method involves accepting the video signal with proffessional dedicated hardware and writing to the computers hard drive. This allows the content to be colour corrected, audio adjusted and digitally remastered. Only then is the video written to final disc. This is the profesional way of converting VHS to DVD.
Benefits of Digitization
- Digital re-mastering greatly enhances the quality of the source video.
- There are far less compatibility issues arising from this method as all formats of DVD are supported by the DVD burner.
- The audio can be compressed into Dolby Stereo hereby creating more space for more video on the disk with no loss in quality.
DVD Recorders
Dvd Recorders accept the video signal from the tape and convert to digital signal and write to DVD in one step. This is normally the low-cost option when it comes to DVD authoring.
There are several disadvantages of this method
- There is no remastering of the vieo signal to improve the quality of video and audio quality
- There are loads of incompatibilities using this method. It is prone to DVD's not working when you receive the product you paid for.
- The video is mostly unattended there fore no skill and skill value is added to your content which means that your VHS tape content cannot be improved by a skilled operator.
Needless to say Freshcut DVD only ever uses the digitization process as we beleive in quality for value.
